The 2022 United States House of Representatives elections in Illinois volition be held on Nov 8, 2022, to elect the 17 U.Due south. Representatives from the land of Illinois, one from each of the state'southward 17 congressional districts (reduced from 18 in the redistricting bike following the 2022 United states Demography). The elections coincided with the 2022 U.S. Senate race in Illinois, too as other elections to the House of Representatives, other elections to the U.s. Senate and various state and local elections. On Nov 23, 2021, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the Illinois Congressional Redistricting Act of 2021, which establishes the new boundaries of the districts, into law.[one]

District 1 [edit]

The incumbent is Democrat Bobby Rush, who was re-elected with 73.8% of the vote in 2020.[2] The boundaries of the district will be adamant during the 2022 redistricting cycle.

On January 3, 2022, Blitz announced that he would retire rather than seek a 16th term in part. Rush was expected to endorse a successor, only did not do so immediately.[3] On January 5 Chicago City Quango alderwoman Pat Dowell, who had previously been running a long-shot bid for Illinois Secretary of State, announced that she would run for the seat.[iv] Dowell was considered the race's presumptive frontrunner, as her Secretary of Country campaign meant she had a ready-built campaign appliance.[5]

On January 9 Karin Norington-Reaves, the CEO of a Chicago-based jobs agency, entered the race. Norington-Reaves had known Rush was retiring prior to his announcement, and Chicago Sun-Times journalist Lynn Sweet considered it likely that she would receive Rush'due south endorsement.[6] Rush endorsed Norington-Reaves at a press conference on January 13.[seven] On January 28 Jonathan Jackson, a business organization professor and the son of Jesse Jackson, announced a bid for the seat.[8] Jackson was considered past Politico's Shia Kapos as potentially having a strong base of support among labor unions, equally his experience as owner of a construction visitor meant he had close contact with said unions.[nine]

During the 2022 redistricting process, the Illinois General Assembly decided to create a second Latino-influenced district. As such, the 3rd congressional district has no incumbent.[33] The commune is approximately 47% Latino and unites heavily Latino communities from Chicago to Elgin.[34] Among potential voters, the communities in the district include 63.four% white, 25.2% Latino, 6.2% Blackness, and 4.7% Asian people.[35] Information technology includes parts of the Chicago neighborhoods of Due west Town, Logan Square, Humboldt Park, Belmont Cragin, Portage Park, Irving Park, Albany Park, Montclare, Dunning, and all or parts of the suburbs of Elmwood Park, River Grove, Franklin Park, Bensenville, Elk Grove Village, Wood Dale, Addison, Glendale Heights, Wheaton, Due west Chicago, Wayne, Bartlett, Hanover Park, and Elgin.[36]

District six [edit]

Due to redistricting, the borders of several districts in the Chicago expanse changed dramatically. 3rd District Incumbent Marie Newman was drawn into the Latino-majority 4th District. As a consequence, Newman decided to switch to the redrawn sixth district and announced that she would exist running against sixth district incumbent Sean Casten.[33] The new district contains about 40% of Newman's former district and about 25% of Casten's.[58] In the opening stages of the campaign both Casten and Newman declared an intent to run on their legislative records, and alleged that they would not entrada negatively against each other.[59]
